The one hit wonder, a one size fits all, do everything wand.
If it breaks, just call Mr. Fix It, then presto the wizard fixes your do-everything wand.
This concept is a problem built by marketing and has embedded itself into the psyche of society. It is a product of an over-consumered, over-marketed people.
The mindset plagues all areas of mechanical and technical expertise, whether you are plumber, educator, physician or a software programmer. Each has their respective knowledge base of how-to’s and each responds to need by fixing our do-all “wands”. This is an illusion of course, and it was built by our reliance on devices and lack of knowledge of the consumers who use them. It is really no fault on the consumer, however when the device breaks consumers are left to contemplate their choice in going a down route where they have then exported all ability to manage or respond to a widget-wizard package. It is a very marketable package, many industries were built on this sort of paradigm that now stifles their productivity.
Permaculture designers cannot avoid this paradigm either, it is a part of the big mess we’re all in. And the truth is there are no one-size-fix-all widgets, no Mr. Fix It wizards. It’s our mess and we either work together or we fail. The solution is written in the problem and now a big problem is the over-consumerism widget/wizard paradigm.
